AN ALLEGED SEASIDE RESORT.
A party of Masterton residents who made a trip on Thursday last to the alleged seaside resort for Masterton people, which is considered by its advocates to be somewhere in the vicinity of Palliser Bay, have strong suspicions, to &ay the least, of the suitability of the spot for the purpose mentioned. The journey across the Wairarapa Lake in the morning was very pleasant indeed, climatic and water conditions being favourable to an enjoyable jaunt, but on the return trip the party were thoroughly drenched, and were enabled during the experience to form some impression of the wetting powers of flying spray. In short, the Lake was an exceedingly rough piece of water, and those in search f information and recreation dimly
comprehended the "beauties" of the seaside resort proposal before the day was over. Said one of the party, "I certainly should not dream of taking my family there—the place is not at all suitable—and it is too inaccessible." The proposition, however, never bad much to recommend it at any time, because the seaside of Masterton, to be of benefit to the town, should bring people to and through the capital of the Wairarapa. Castlepoint and Whareama are the natural seaside resorts of Masterton, and if the public would only take . more interest in these localities the town would not only derive considerable pleasure from them, but would, also, possess in them an asset of some value.
