PAHIATUA NEWS.

((From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. The recent meeting of the Pahiatua "Racing Club was a very successful one. The Club will make about £SOO out of the meeting. The warm rain which is falling at the time of writing will have a beneficial effect on the grass. The Borough employees have been engaged cleaning up the footpaths In the back streets and giving them a coat of tar and sand. This

is a much neec'ed improvement. Thosa desi-ous of obtaining frviit for jam-making purposes would do well to attend the mart sale this (Saturday) afternoon. Excellent crops of rape are to be seen all over this district. Mr W. Entwistle, ■ who recently started a cabinet-making business is this town, has a splendid display -of hand-made furniture, all made since his arrival here. Mr Entwistle's work reflects great credit on him. Although the town was crowded both race nights, no 1 , a single person was arrested for drunkenness. The pupils and intending pupils of Mr C. Bluett are r.-min i~ i .at he will resume music-teaching on Monday, February Ist.

WOODVILLE NOTES. The third annual swimming sports, under the auspices of the Woodville Swimming Club, will be held at the baths<on Wednesday, February 10th. A good programme has been arranged, and over £4O will be given in prize-money, the principal event being the Hawke's Bay Championship of 200 yards, first prize £3 3s, second 21s, and third 10s fid; and £2 2s has been alloted as first prize in the President' Handicap.
