SALE OF CARRINGTON ESTATE STOCK.

The Government will take over tha Carrington Estate, near Carterton, on March 31st, and the retiring owner, Mr W. Howard Booth, has decided to dispose of his stock, comprising some 6,600 head of sheep, 400 head of cattle, and a large number of horses. The sale will be conducted by Messrs Dalgety anl Co., Ltd., and will take place at Carterton on March 4th and sth, when the sheep and cattle will be sold on the first day and the 75 horses on the second day. The Carrington Estate flock U well known throughout the North Island. In fact, Mr Booth's freezers established a New Zealand reputation by the achievement, at the International A.and P. Show in Christchurch, of vanquishing "prime Canterbury" on its own ground. The estate has always been well managed, and in this respect has received a commendatory notice from the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout. The flocks have been always expertly handled by Mr Booth, and the manager, Mr J. Mac Donald, and generally the sheep are of a high standard. The fat wethers are about as good as could be found in New Zealand. A possible reason of Mr Booth's success as a farmer is that he has never overstocked. The cattle are said to be in first-class condition, and in horses, in which Mr iiooth is an expert judge, there will be some really good animals. Full particulars of the sala will be found on page 8 of this issue.

IMPORTANT CLEARING SALE. A clearing sale of some importance is to be held by Messs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., at their Alfredton saleyards on Thursday, February 25th, on behalf of Mrs Owen, who has disposed of her property. The sheep to be auctioned total over 2,000, and the cattle include a fine lot of steers and heifers. For the convenience of the public the sale will be conducted at Messrs Dalgety and Co.'s AJfredton saleyards, an arrangement that should be greatly appreciated.
