HOMING PIGEON RACE.

NEW PLYMOUTH TO MASTERTON. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew the last old-bird race, lor the season from New Plymouth (airline 158 miles) yesterday afternoon. Only three lofts were represented owing to the moult having set in with most of the old birds. The weather was far from favourable for fast flying, and in the circumstances the velocity of the placed birds was very good. Mr F. Rosson acted as judge The following is the result: — Mr H. M. Wilton's Swallow, velocity 771 yards per minute 1 Mr A. Miller's Twilight, velocity 758 yards per minute 2

The winner takes the pair of purebred Homing pigeons presented to the Club by Mr iUn-ahall, uf Petone. The first of the series of young bird races commences next Thursday with a fly from the Summit, when it is anticipated that about a dozen lofts will be represented. The Club has issued nearly two hundred young bird rings this season, and the competition in this class promises to be very keen. The "hampering" for the Submit will take place next Wednesday night, and nominations for the Novel Interval Race from Wellington on February 25*; h are also due on that night.
