CLAIM BY A DOCTOR.

FEES FOR THE RICH AND I-'OR THE POOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Jan. 27. The Civil Court yesterday heard a claim by Dr A. A. Martin against Ross and Co., Foxton, for £SO, costs of medical attendance on a gir! injured at defendant's rope fact' 17, the injuries necessitating the amputation of an arm. Dr Mandl stated in his evidence that he was engaged on the case with Dr Martin, and his fee was nine guineas, but the father of the girl was liable for the amount, and the doctors recognised the difference between rich and poor patients. He considered a fee of £SO a reasonable charge for people in the position of defendants to pay. Drs Martin and O'Brien deposed that the fee was not excessive, but in accordance with the British Medical Association's scale. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £SO and costs.
