FATAL AVALANCHE.
A PARTY OVERWHELMED. THREE LIVtiS LOST. Received January 24, 4.45 p.m. BERNE, January 23. An avalanche in the Furka Pass, in the Alps, overwhelmed Major Bayley (of the Royal Artillery), Lieut, Berkeley Hill (of the Second Middlesex Regiment), Major M erian (Swis-3 Cavalry) and Bleur (the guide). Only Baylev survives. He was fifty yards higher up than his companions.
