A COMPOUND SMASHED. POLICE FIRE ON RIOTERS. SIX KILLED AND FIFTEEN WOUNDED. Received January 22. 11.5 p.m. PRETORIA, January 22. In connection with the Chinese New Year Holidays the Chinese employed in the Village Deep Mine refused to work, and smashed the compound. Eight hundred Chinese were twice repslled by the police, who eventually fired on ihem, killing six and wounding fifteen.
