COLLISION NARROWLY AVERTED.
Received January 23, 12.40 a.m. SYDNEY. January 11. A narrow esca;e from a collision at the Heads is reported. Through the -flight the Island steamer Malaita met a steamer outward bound bearing duwn on her. The Mai uta went astern and the other vessel passed her about twenty yards away. A wire from Newcastle states that the Paloona had reported having narrowly missel colliding with a vessel which was only showing one light.
