UNEMPLOYED AT OWESTPORT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WESTPORT, January 21. At a meeting of unemployed, some 200 being present, to-night, a statement was made by the President of the Westport Labour Union that 500 people were unemployed in and about Westport, largely as the result of the stoppage of the Harbour Board works. It was resolved to urge the Minister of Public Works to provide speedy employment in constructing the Westport - Inangahua junction railway; and to urge the County Council to get whit works it could hand; also to urge the Government to take the labour bureau out of the hands of the police, making another appointment of inspector of factories and labour bureau.
