SPORTING.

RACING. TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland"). With fine weather conditions today the Wellington meeting should be a pronounced success. The racing track is in excellent order, arid bfc fields will be seen out in seven of the eight events. The probable starters and riders for the Wellington Cup, of 3,000 sovs, 1J mile, are:—All Red 9.9 (C. Jenkins), Apa 8.9 (A. Oliver), Husbandman 8.6 (F. E. Jones), Tangiinoana 8.5 (S. Reid), Sir Frisco 7.13 (J. McCombe), Artillerie 7.10 (R. Hatch), Diabolo 7.6 (G. Price), Ikon, 7.5 (L. Wilson), Bourrasque 7.5 (F. Cress), Moloch 7.5 (B. Deeley), Iranui 7.1 (J. Shanahan), Muskerry 7.1 (H. Price), Swimmiog Belt 7.1 (Alf. Oliver) Chanteuse 7.0 (T. Jones), Sunbonnet 6.13 (McGrath), Blue Ribbon 6.10 (T. Carroll or E. Lowe). Lawn Rose 6.7 (H. Tapp), Adria 6.7 (A. Chapman). Tne final gallops were executed at Trentham yesterday morning, and some fast times were recorded. Of the Cup candidates the best gallops were done by Sir Frisco, Artillerie and Iranui, who ran six furlongs together in lmin 14sec, the firstnamed finishing in front. Muskerry ran a mile in lmin 43sec, All Red and Diabolo the same distance in lmin 45sec. Some very brilliant sprinting was shown by the horses engaged in the short events. Tumut and Armlet skipped over 5 furlongs in 60 2-osec. Penates with a flying start left 4 furlongs behind in 4Ssec, and Gold Crest from a standing start ran the same distance in 48 4-ssec. i The morning's record for the distance went down to Milan, 47£ sec, Eclogue being beaten off. These times read so fast that J,t is as well to state that from where the horses were timed the distances run were somewhat short. It is, however, confidently expected that some fresh records will be recorded to-day. The fastest time for the Cup, 2rain 33sec, is credited to Ropa, who won in 19C6.
