LONG ISLAND SHOOTING CASE.
ACQUITTAL OF THOMSON HAINS. Received January 18, 8.30 a.m. NEW YORK, January 17. Thomson Hains has been acquitted at Flushing, Lon* Island, as an accessory of Captain Hains in the shooting of William Annis in August last.
Captain Hains is awaiting trial
Captain Peter Hains, a military officer stationed at Fort Hamilton, had sued for a divorce, while Mrs Hains, on the advice of Mr Annis, a well-known publisher, counter-sued for. divorce, alleging grave misconduct involving several military officers. It was stated that Hains, with his brother Thornton, waited on the landing-stage of the Yacht CJub, amid a crowd of fashionable pleiisureseekers, until Annis landed, then the captain shot Annis six times mortally, while his brother, with a revolver, kept the crowd back. Hains declares that Annis, a married man, ruined bis young wife.
