VALEDICTORY.
GARDEN PARTY TO Mb AND MRS CORADINE. There was a large attendance a* the Masterton Bowling Green yesterday afternoon, when a Garden Party was given by the residents of Masterton to Mr and Mrs Coradine, prior to their departure next week on a tour of the world. There was a strong representation of bowler?; ladies, and , prominent citizens of all flections of the community, including the Mayor i and the whole of the Borough Coun- | cil, and members of other local bodies. Very complete arrangements had been irade for the entertainment of a large gathering, refreshments being dispensed by the ladies' committee, and an orchestra selected by Messrs Inns and Goddard engaged. The music provided was very enjoyable, and a pleasant afternoon was spent by bowlers present in sundry friendly games, and by non-bowlers and ladies in other ways.
As Mr and Mrs Coradine entered the green hearty cheers were given for the guests. Miss Molly Collier afterwards presented Mrs Coradine with a beautiful bouquet, amidst applause. During the afternoon a presentation of of a very valuable travelling bag, toilet case and set (silver mounted) combined was made by the ladies' committee to Mrs Coradine. Mrs M. C. O'Cohnell made the presentation, expressing in doing so the esteem in which the recipient was held in social circles in Masterton, reference being also made to Mrs Coradine's valuable assistance in all charitable functions and other public movements in which the assistance of ladies was asked. Mr Coradine returned hearty thanks on behalf of Mrs Coradine, himself and family, for the splendid manner in which they were being honoured, and said he and Mrs Coradine would cherish pleasant memories of the gathering during their tour and after. He also thanked the ladies very heartily on Mrs Coradine's behalf for the handsome presentation. Mrs Blackman made a brief speech, thanking the Bowling Club for the use of the green, and wishirg Mr and Mrs Coradine a pleasant tour. ™ Cheers were then giv Q n for Mr and Mrs Coradine, the ladies and the Bowling Club, a very plea?ant gathering concluding just before dusk. Mr A. E. Winzenherg took a photographic group of those present. It is the intention of the Bowling Club to entertain Mr Coradine, who is President of the Club, next Thursday evening in the pavilion on the grounds. The ladies' committee who carried out the arrangements for yesterday's function Was composed of Mesdames O'Connell (President), J. W. Bbickman, Hogg, A. Haughey, Kendall, Collier, Mutrie, Rigg, Arnott, Mansfield, Yarr and Marley.
