TAKANAKf TOURNAMENT. By Telegrnj h—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 14. The Taranfki Tennis Association's Tournament opened to-day in good weather. The only exciting match of the afternoon was between Pearsa (South Canterbury) and Jennings (formerly champion of Nelson). Pearse conceded 27 points. Misses Powdrell and Nunneley, and Wilding, Fisher, and Brown arrived to-night. H. A. Parker and A. J. Black (Auckland) will arrive by the Rarawa in the morning. The weather at present is not promising well. Results:— Men's Champion Singles. Smith beat Lints. J. C. Nicholson bent C. H. Weston. Second Round. Smith beat Nicholson. Ladies' Singles. Miss Cave (Wanganui) beat Miss Brewster. Second Round. Miss L. Taompson beat Miss Simpson.
