OPIUM-SMOKING AT STOKE.

POLICE RAID. A CHINESE ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, January 13. For some time the local Customs officials and police have suspected opium-smoking by Chinese at Stoke. Last night the premises of Ngan Lee, a market gardener, were raided, and a Chinese named Ah Sing arrested on a charge of Laving opium in a form suitable for smoking in his possession. A small quantity of the drug was seized, with . smoking apparatus. About eleven Chinese were found in the building, which reeked of the fumes of the opium. Ah Sing was tound lying across a bed with a pipe m his hand, and a small quantity of opium on him. Informations have been laid against the other Chinese found on the premises.
