BOWLING.
NORTHERN TOURNAMENT. By Telergaph—Press Association. NAPIER, January 11. The annual tournament of the Northern Bowling Association was opened to-day on the greens of Napier and Greenmeadows Clubs. The weather was fine, but dull and cold for the time of the year. The greens were in good order, and preparations generally were complete. Mr J. C. McVay, President of the Association, and of the Napier Bowling Club, declared the tournament open. Speaking at the Napier green, in the presence of a full muster of players, he said that he hoped the tournament would be as successful as those which had preceeded it, and he believed they would witness some first-class play. Three rounds were played to-day in each section. The following are the positions of the Clubs at the end of to-day's play, exclusive of byes: A SECTION. Won. Lost.
