CHURCH ROOF COLLAPSES.
FORTY PERSONS KILLED. Received January 11, 9.50 p.m. BERNE, January 11. The roof of an old church at Max in Switzerland, collapsed during the service, killing forty persons and injuring sixty. Some attribute the accident to an earthquake, while others declare it was caused by the ringing of the church bells, when the strength of the building was being impaired by its extension. '
