TENURE IN ORANGE COLONY.
Steps have been taken by a number of people interested in land settlement affairs in the Orange River Colony to obtain from the Imperial Government certain modifications of the existing terms upon which farms are now neld in the Orange River Colony. The main contention of the settlers is that they should be placed on a sound and businesslike footing with regard to the terms on which they hold their farms. The majority of thesß farms, representing a tolal of about 1,000,000 acres, were acquired during the period of inflated ' alue of land immediately following t ie war, and the settlers hold that there should be a readjustment of land values. Tney feel that unless some steps of this sort he taken they will be compelled to relinquish their holdings at considerable loss. Realising the great value that experienced man of the settler ciass would be to Rhodesia, the Chartered Company have offered to grant facilties in the shape of (1) practically free transport from their homes to Rhodesia, and (2) grants of land en favourable terms. As a preliminary measure, the Chartered Company have invited three delegates from the Orange River Colony to visit Rhodesia at the company's expense, in order to select land, arrange terms of settlement, etc It appears, however, that the case of the settlers has been received very sympathetically by His Majesty's Government.
