TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland"). Acceptances for the Wellington meeting are due to-inorrow night. Downfall has been eased in his work lately on account of having a bruised hoof, and may not be seen out at Trentham next week. California pulled up lame afte~ winning his race at Hastings on New Year's Day, and will be among the absentees.
I understand Merrie Rose and Lucretius will not be taken to the Wellington meeting. The first-named was detrimentally affected consequent on her two efforts at Tauherenikau, and is being temporarily spelled. Mr R. Tilson'3 two-year-old colt by Birkenhead—Merganser has been taken in hand by J. Russell at Martinborough. S. Reid who has been appointed private trainer to Mr D. Buiek, of JPalmemon North, will take up his duties there this week.
The Wairarapa entrants for the Wellington Cup (Moloch, Sunbonnet, Riflemaid and Blue Ribbon) are going along satisfactorily in their track work.
The Wellington-owned Artillerie is to be taken over to Australia to compete in th Q . Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup. The Wairarapa Racing Club made a satisfactory profit over its recent summer meeting.
