Thursday. Lodge Mangatainoka 1.0.0. F., M.U., held their fortnightly meeting in the Lodge Room, Palmerston North Road, last evening, Bro. Boyens, N.G., presiding. Routine business was transacted, and a visiting Bro. from Woodville was cordially welcomed. Travellers trom Makuri state that the road through the Gorge is very heavy and not pleasant to travel on. The Makuri river has been m high flood since New Year, and anglers who have been spending the Christmas vacation at this place have not had the best of weather fcr their sport. Mr H. Vile's carrying teams have been delayed there for the last three days, it being impossible to load wool in the wet and wind. Attention is directed to the tenders for bridges, approaches, and roads called for by the Pahiatua County Council in another column. Tenders will close on the 16fch January, and plans, etc., may be inspected at the County Council Chambers. Dr Helen Cowie, of Masterton, who has been relieving Dr Beard, returns to Masterton this evening, and Dr Gallagan, L.K.C.P. and S., Ireland, will act as locum tenens for Dr Beard, who has been indisposed, and purposes taking a few weeks' holiday. Splendid catches ot trout are reported to have been made lately in the Kumeroa district. The Pahiatua County Council will meet on Saturday morning next, and the Borough Council on Monday evening.
Mr J. Stratford, who has been in Pahiatua since 1890, intends to remove to Dannevirke shortly, and settle on a section recently acquired by him in the Piri Piri Block. General satisfaction was expressed at the inclusion'of the Member for Mastertuu (Hon. A. W. Hogg) in the Ministry. The weather is still squally, and farmers from every district have the same tale to tel! with regard to haymaking. Several small sheep farmtftc, who have only a few hundred sheep to shear, commenced shearing a fortnight ago, and have not yet
been able to finish. The miik supply at the factories is diminishing in consequence of the prolonged wet.
