POVERTY BAY FATALITIES.

By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, January 7. A Maori girl at Whakara, aged 17, was drowned to-day while bathing in the Waiau river, forty miles from Wairoa. Thomas Casey, an elderly man, was found dead at Whatatutu last night. It is supposed he shot himself. Police have been despatched to enquire regarding a reported case of attempted suicide at Waerengokuri.
