AN AMBULANCE RE-UNION.
VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS
ANNUAL MEETING Ob ST, JOHN'S AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.
A very pleasant affair was the annual meeting of the Masterton Division of St. John's Ambulance Brigade, held in Dominion Hall, lest evening, the two sections—the ladies' and men's—attending in large numbers. The proceedings were presided over by Mr.A. Donald, Superintendent of the Men's Branch.
The first part of the proceedings was devoted to formal business, the annual report of the Nursing Guild being adopted. This report was a lengthy one, and stated, inter alia:— "Our membership now entitles us to another officer, and I have had the pleasure of recommending Miss Jane Harris as second nursing officer. Regular weekly meetings of the Guild have been held from Ist April to 11th September, 1908, at which the Hon. Surgeon, Dr. Archer Hosking, has delivered a number of highly instructive lectures. Br. Helen Cowie, Hon. Surgeon, and Mrs Morrison, Matron of the Masterton Hospital, have also delivered most instructive lectures, and given practical demonstrations in bedside work, and methods for relief of pain and general comfort of an invalid. The thanks of the Brigade are due to the members of the medics! profession for their valuable instruction, which has been highly appreciated and far-reaching in its effects. The attendances throughout the session have been very gratifying, al) the members making a special effort to be present, many coming Hong distances in extremely rough weather. This enthusiasm has had a marked effect on the general efficiency of the Guild as proved by the result of the annual examinations, every member of the First Aid and Home Nursing Classes entered for examination, having passed creditably, some with exceptional merit. The first public demonstration by the members of both Divisions of the Brigade was held in the Town Hall on' Friday, 21st August, 1908, at which His Excellency Lord Plunket, President of St. John's Ambulanca Association, N.Z., was present. His Excellency presented the certificates, etc., and spoke in warm "commendation of the work of the Brigade. The division has again to thank Mr Chas. A. Tabuteau for kindly auditing the accounts. I desire on behalf of the Guild to tender to the officers and members of the Men's Division our appreciation of the courteous and amicable relations existing between the two divisions. 1 have also to sincerely thank all the officers and members of the Guild for the able and efficient manner in which they have carried out their duties, their loyal assistance has materially aided in making the Guild so efficient and enthusiastic. As we have a big goal before us t'-ia year in the establishment of a district nurse, it is encumbent on us all to give the interests of the Guild our first consideration and also to encourage others to become members. If each member of the Guild woulJ endeavour to secure at least one nnthusiastic new member it would very, materially assist us. lam pleased to report that the syllabus for the coming season promises to be exceptionally interesting. Besides thn usvihl lectures ly the hnn. surgeon;.', Mr I!. O. Jarrett, the well-known exponent of physical culture, has kindly offered to give us a practical demoi'straddi in deep-breathing and physical culture.
