News to hand show that destructive bush fires are raging in the Blue Mountains.
Thousand of acres Jiave beeri •jwept. The heat wave is unabated. A t Mertndie the thermometer registered 118 degrees, and at Murwillumbah 119 degrees. The latter place is surrounded by tfHah fires, which are racing in many districts. MELBOURNE, January 2. A bush fire started at Shepparton, but a man returning from a' factory succeeded in quenching it with tins of sour milk.
