METEOROLOGICAL.

UPPER [PLAIN RAINFALL. Mr J. C. Boddington reports as follows: To 9 a.m. Thursday 2 points. Rain fell on 17 day 3 in December. Minimum fall in 24 hours 73 points on 24th. Minimum 2 points on 14th and 31st. Total for month 3.04 inches, as against 5.81, 3.42, 1.24, 1.07 inches in December 1904, 1905, 1906 and 1907, respectively. Total for 12 months 33.89 inches, as against 45.98, 51.32, 40.84 and 54.19 inches for the corresponding period in 1904, 1905, 1906, and 1907, from which it will be seen that the rainfall for the year just 'ended has- been 14.94 inches short of the average for the previous four years, and probably constitutes a record for many years.
