gAUCKLAND v. CANTERBURY. IBy Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 1. Ihe Auckland-Canterbury cricket match for the Plunket Shield commenced here to-aay in beautiful weather. The wicket was a little slow when play started, but improved as the day wore on. Auckland won the toss and decided to bat, making; a first innings' total of 239, the bowling of Bennett and the • fielding of Canterbury were the principal factors in keeping the total dtown. About 4 o'clock light rain came on, but did not affect the wicket. On Canterbury's appeal, play was stopped thirteen minutes before time on account of the bad light. The match between Otago and YVanganui commenced toirddy. Otago batted first. Seideberg's 109 included two chances, one before reaching double'figures. Otago made 330 (Seiceberg 109; Hopkins 40, Rutherford 33, Wilson 29, Williams 26, Austin 29, Ayle3lß, Torrance not out 22). Broad took three wickets for 71, Cargill three for 49, Burrett three for 49. Wanganiii made 124 for four wickets (K. H. Cave 47, H. B. Cave 22, C. Holland 14, Broad IJ, Burrett, not out, 17).
A matcn was plajeti on Thursday between the Manawatu cricketers and an eleven selected by Mr D. K. Logan. The match was won by Manawatu by 5 wickets. Masterton ma is 205 and 107 for seven'wickets (innings closed), and Manawatu 111 and 103 for 5 wickets. Luncheon for the visitors on the grounds was provided by Mr and Mrs D. K. Logan. Afternoon tea for all the playei-s was provided by Mesdames D. K. Logan and C. Perry.
