Chatwin, of Mangatainoka,- was married to Mr Edward Clare Vowell, son of Mr W. M. Vowel), also of Mangatainoka. The bride (JooKed handsome in a beautiful muslin dcsoire dreas, and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms, and carried a shower bouquet. Misses fe Boris and Eunice Chatwin were the " bridesmaids.. Both were prettily attired in embroidered muslin, and pink silk hits. Mr G. Vowell acted as best' man,, and the bride was - given away by her brother, Mr L. H. Broker. The marriage ceremony was' performed by the Rev. A. ;. /. W. H. Compton, M.A. Miss v - . Barrell offiicated at the organ, and played the "Wedding March" as the newly wedded couple left the Church. After the ceremony the bride and bridegroom, and the guests were driven to the Library Hall, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast bad been provided by Mr and Mrs Chatwin. . The gifts of the. bridegroom to the bride and bridesmaids, consisted of gold necklets each. The bride . presented the bridegroom with a handsome set of gold sleeve links." Mr and Mrs Vowell were the recipients of \ many handsofije and useful presents, which testified t'o, their popularity. The bride's travelling dress was of green silk rep with picture hat to match. Mr and Mrs Vowell's future home will be at Miramar. •

Preparatioras for the Methodist Sunday School Picnic to be held at Mr Robinson's farm, Konini, on Friday next are well in hand, and a good day's outing is promised. On New Year's Day the following hours will be observed at the Pahiatua Post Office:—The telephone exchange will be open only from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; all outward mails will close at 8 a.m., and no counter business will be transacted. The telegraph office will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and in the evening from 7&3118. The committee of the Mangatainoka Athletic Society will meet in the Library iHall on Saturday evening next Heavy rain fell from 9 o'clock this morning till about 4 o'clock thi* afternoon. The weather is still threatening and overcast, and farmers are now wanting f.the sun to shine as they have had sufficient rain to ■ satisfy them for theipresent.
