ELTHAM AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.
By Telegraph—Press Association. ELTHAM, December 28. The Axemen's Carnival was well attended on the second day. The main feature of the Axemen's Cup, which is the big event, was the manner in which the limit men scored. The scratch men were giving away too much, and D. Pretty, E. Pretty, Miley, Johnston and Newstroski failed to qualify for the final, which resulted as follows:—Puklowpki, 1; Dumphy,' 2; Herold, 3; Home, 4; Schiscka, 5: Dowman, 6. In the world's single-handed sawing championship, A. Sullivan won in lmin 16 3-ssec—a world's record if the timber proves of correct measurement. Sullivan is a Tasmanian. The success of the Tasmanians was a feature of the meeting. The remainder of the results are as follow:
Maiden Single-handed Sawing (18inch logs)—D. Johnston 1, C. Volzke 2, T. Smith 3, T. H. Lines 4. Time, 40sec.
First-class Underhand Handicap (18-inch logs)—E. Pretty, 15sec, 1; J. T. Herold, 15sec, 2; C. Miley, ssec, 3; P. J. Ford, 15sec, 4. Time, 2min Usee. World's Sawing Championship, single-handed (2ft logs)—A. Sullivan,. 1; D. Johnson, 2; C. F. A. Volzke, 3. Time, lmin 16 3-ssec. Maiden Double-handed Sawing (18inch logs)—C. Volzke and mate. 1; Lines and mate, 2. Time, 17 3-ssec. Visitors Handicap Chop (15-inch blocks)—J. Degan, 15sec, 1; T. Herold, 20sec, 2; S. Johnson, 18sec, 3. Time, lmin 13u;c. In a private match, J. Matson beat G. Vincent in a single-handed j sawing competition'(lß-inch logs), in 16 4-ssec.
