"A VERITABLE NIGHTMARE."
OVER THE MAIN TRUNK LINE. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 22. Passengers who arrived from the South by railway on Saturday night referred to their experience' at Ohakune as a veritable nightmare. Many having learned that no accommodation was available at Ohakune, thirty occupants of various carriages refused to leave the train. It is stated that tho railway officials sternly forbade the passengers from stopping in the carriages, but resisters, male and female, spread their coats and passed a rather restless night on the carriage seats. Some few who ventured to take tha chance of accommodation at Ohakune, stated that stretchers were used in all manner of places, even to bathrooms, and the hours of rest extend sd only from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The Prime Minister, referring to these complaints, said he would be much surprised if he found "that any railway employee had acted as alleged, but if they did so, their action would not be repeated."
