LONDON, December 21
King Manuel, when recently returning to Lisbon, drove from the station to the Palace at full gallop, surrounded by cavalry. The act was much criticised until the arrest of Julio Mendes, an ex-police officer, Was announced, and it was proved that a secret society had arranged to attempt the assassination of the King.
