AN EX-MASTERTON CLERGYMAN'S DECEASE.
Mr Waiter Harris, an ex-County Councillor, and a member of the Masterton Hospital Trustees until just recently, was the subject of some eulogistic references at the meeting of the latter body yesterday. Mr M. J. Jackson moved that a very hearty vote of appreciation be passed to Mr Harris for his valuable and devoted services as a Hospital Trustee, and particularly in connection with the work of setting out the grounds of the new Hospital. Other Trustees made remarks highly com'plimentarv to Mr Harris, and the motion was carried unanimously. It was decided to send a copy of the resolution to Mr Harris.
Many old Masterton residents will regret to learn that the Rev. W. C. Paige, formerly Vicar of St. Matthew's, Masterton, has died at Paington (England). He was born in 1838, and educated at Oxford University, whence he graduated. He was ordained a curate in 1859 and acted as curate of St. James', Plymouth, from 1859 to 1861. Later he was. Chaplain of the Gaol and Headmaster of the Grammar School in Antigua, West Indies, becoming afterwards Incumbent of All Saints', Antigua. After leaving Masterton, when he was succeeded by the Rev. A. C. Yorke, he went Home and identified himself with the work of the Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge.
