TARIFF MATTERS.
AMERICAN ENQUIRIES. Received December 15, 8 a.m. NEW YORK, December 14. American newspaper enquiries among manufacturers relative to a reform of the tariff indicate that woollen clothing manufacturers do not object to tree importation of wool, but they are unwilling to allow customers too large a reduction on the manufactured goods as a set-off against the reduced price of wool. Boot and shoe manufacturers are in favour of repeal of the duty on hides, and a reduction of the duty on leather, but they wish to retain the present tariff on boots and shoes. A BLOW AT AUSTRIA. Received December 15, 8.8 a.m. CETIINJE, December 14. Montenegro has imposed the maximum tariff on goods from all countries not possessing commercial treaties with her. This change particularly affects Austria. Montenegro desires to concede the maximum tariff to Britain and Italy.
