LONDON WOOL SALES.
A VERY FIRM CLOSE. Received December 14, 8 a.m. LONDON, December 13. The wool sales closed yery firm. Competition wan more brisk than on Friday. Average merinos were 5 per cent, above those of October sales, American sorts were 10 per cent, higher, good scoured showed a 5 to 7J per cent, advance, faulties 10 per cent., fine good medium croasbreds 15 to 20 per cent., and coarse barely 10 per cc-nt. Slipes were in keen demand at a 10,' per cent, advance. During the sales 07,500 bales were sold for the Home mar'xet, 85,000 for the Continent, 15,000 for America, and 10,(00 were In-Id over. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cable from London, under date Il(h instant: —The sales have closed with good enquiry from all branches of the trade, and prospects for the next series are favourable. The market is strong for fine and medium crossbreds. Prices have hardened from par to 5 per cent., whilst coarse crossbreds are lower by 5 per cenr. The total quantity held over is 12,000 bales, of which 5,000 are New Zealand. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London agents, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., dated 12th December:—The sales have closed with 10,000 bales held over. Competition was good. Compared with the opening rates, the market has declined 1\ to 5 per cent., and is irregular. Inferior descriptions of coarse greasy crossbred show the greatest decline. Scoured crossbred has declined 10 per cent. Messrs Da'gety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following cable message from London, dated 12th instant:—"The wool sales closed firm. Since our last telegram scoured super merino wools are 5 per cent, higher, and other descriptions of scoured merinos are 5 to 10 per cent, higher. Super Merino, com bing, 10 to 15 per' cent. higherGreasy Merino wools suitable for. America, and greasy merinos of other descriptions 10 per cent, higher, except short wasty merino woo's, which are 1\ per cent higher. For crossbred wools of fine quality prices are 10 per cent, higher, and crossbred wools of medium and coarse quality are 10 to 15 per cent, higher. The totai net quantity amounted to 187,500 bales, of which 9,000 bales have been sold to America, 85,000 bales to the Continent, and 76,500 bale.-! for Home consumption, leaving stocks on hand of 17,000 bales."
