We regret to hear that Mr C. A. Pownall is seriously ill.

The oldest inspector in the service of the Otago Education Board,.Mr Fitzgerald, will retire at the end of.' the present year. \

The Rev. R. Young. Vicar of St. Marks, has returned to Carterton after having spent a holiday in the Auckland District.

Mr F. J. Nicol, son of Mr. j" Nicol, of Masterton, who is on the staff of operators at the Eucla Cable Station, Western Australia, is at, present on a visit to his relatives andj friends in Masterton. r**^

Mr A. E. Remington, M.P:, for Rangitikei, was married the other day to Miss Elizabeth Manning,, only? daughter of the late Sergt. Manning: of Palmerston. Mr and Mrs Remington are at present spending the:: honeymoon in Otago, and leave for Australia on 21st December.

Owing to the serious indisposition of Mrs Massey, who is at present im. a nursing home in Auckland, Mr W... F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, has been unable tu accept invitations to several Opposition functions which it is intended to hold ; this week in different southern centres.

At Timaru on Thursday last, Dr Phillip Mules, of Woodville, wa&, married to Miss Emmeline Tennent,. daughter of Mr R. C. Tennent, manager of the 1 Bank of New South Wales. The bride wore a dress of soft white silk, veiled with beautiful Indian lace and embroidery, andi her veil was exquisitely worked with; embroidery of the same design. She: wore a wreath of orange blossoms, and carried a shower bouquet. Misses Mules and Tennent (2) were the bridesmaids.

The many friends of Mrs T. Warner will regret to hear of ho.v death which took place at her residence, Lincoln street at 6.45 o'clock last evening. The deceased, who was 66 years of age, had been ailing for the past two. years, and for the past six months: had been confined to her bed. The late Mrs Warner, was a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, and has ceen a resident of this town for 32 years, duringwhich time the deceased lady had made many friends. A family of three sons and five daughters are left to mourn their loss. The sons are Messrs Charles and Wij]j am Warner, of Ngahauranga, and Edward Warner, of Masterton; the daughters bung' Mrs E. M. Bannister, Mrs P. Nicholson, and Miss E. Warner, of Masterton, Mrs B. Bnckell, of Monson's Bunh, and Mrs Lister, of Marton. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the residence, Lincoln street, at 3.30 p.m.
