HOMING PIGEON RACE.
NAPIER TO MASTERTON. NINE BIRDS PARTICIPATE. ONLY TWO RETURN. •The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held a race from Napier yesterday afternoon. Six lofts sent nine birds. The result was rather disappointing to the majority of the loft owners, as only-two birrfs returned. The performance of. these two birds, under unfavourable climatic conditions, was decidedly good, although the velocity registered was only moderate. "The stationmaster at Napier reported that he liberated the pigeons at the appointed time, but that a fierce gale was blowing in the face of the birds. This probably accounted for the large percentage of pigeons not being abl'e to negotiate the distance of 125 miles air line. Mr F. Ros3on acted as judge, and the following is the result: Mr.H. F. Billington's "Sunrise," 715 yds per minute ... 1 Mr H. LrittV'Serf II.," 701yda per minute ... ... 2 "The winner takes Mr F. ,Rossou's trophy.
