IMPERIAL IDEAS. RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCHOLARS. ADDRESS BY PROFESSOR EGERTON. Received December 10, 9 a.m. LONDON, December 9. Professor Hugh Egertou, Beit Professor of Colonial History at Oxford University, speaking before the Colonial Institute, 'dwelt on the Imperial consequences of the Rhodes beq'iest, and the responsibility of the Rhodes scholars as missioners of the Pan-Britannic idea. He hoped they would assist to found" a school of Imperial history, and rise above the prejudices and passions of particu*lar localities.
Professor Egerton has been Beit Professor of' Colonial History at Oxford since 1905. Hi 3 publications include "A Short History of British and Colonial Policy" and "Origin and Growth of the English polonies."
