FIRST DaY'S RESULTS

Fine weather was experienced for the opening day of the Woodville Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, and the attendance was large. The sum of £7,820 was passed through the tJtalisator, compared with £10,297 for the corresponding day last year. Four bookmakers were licensed. Some interesting racing was seen, and in a couple of exciting finishes were witnessed. Mr C. O'Connor's starting left nothing to be desired. The following are the results: —

Maiden Plate, six furlongs —Longnei% 8.11, 1; Shannon Lass, 7.13, 2; Cockatoo, 8.1, 3. Also started — Vinco, The Raft, Aberbrothock, Miscast, Remission and Paione. Miscast and Aberbrothock jumped back wben the barrier rose. Won easily. Time, lmin 15 3-ssec. Hack Handicap Hurdles, one mile and threequarters—Don Carlos, 8.8, 1; Master Douglas, 10.10, 2; Tonderghie, 10.5, 3. Also started— Peregrine, Lebeccio, Scenery, Taupo, and Diplomatic. vVon by two lengths. Time, 3min 21see. Grandstand Hack Handicap, seven furlongs—Eclogue, 7.8, 1; Osiris, 7.5, 2; Roselethe, 7.2, 3. Also started —Routine, Highden, Parable, and Mildura. Won comfortably by two lengths. Time, lmin 30sec. Woodville Handicap, one mile and a quarter—Moral, 9.2, 1; Woodhey, 7.0, 2; Moloch, 7.13, 3. Also started —Tangimoana 7.9, Nova 7.7, Loiret 7.0, Merrie Rose 6.12, and Rangihaeta 6.7. Merrie Rose and Wondhey set a solid pace, the former dropping back at a mile. Woodhey came into the straight with two lengths lead. Half way down the straight Moral challenged, and cutting down the leader won by a length and a half. Time, 2min 7 3-ssec. Flying Hack Handicap, six ±urlongs—Maiora, 7.11, 1; Vi, 7.13, 2; Seaton Dale, 8.6, 3. Also started— Stylish, Contour, Royal Maid, Lochiela, Bonnie Door, Sir Possible, and Thaler. VVon by half a length. Time, lmin 15 2-ssec. Borough Handicap, seven furlongs —Aberration, 9.4, 1; Ikon, 9.13,* 2; Skye, 8.5, 3. Also started — Martyrium, Aboriginal, Sandstream, Toa Tuhi, Iranui, Merrie Zealand, and Roseal. Won by a neck. Time, lmin 30sec. ,

Welter Hacit Handicap, one mile —Roselethe, 8.8, 1; Separator, 8.11, 2; Buoyant, 9.1, 3. Also started —■ Peregrine, Nightmare, Flintgun, Sealer, and Marutoa. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 41sec. Electric Handicap, five furlongs— Rangipapa, 9.2, l;Naumai, 9.9, 2; Tumut, 7.3, 3. Also started—North Head. Lothair, Auldearn, Stylish, Andrew Mack, and Linkless. Won by a neck. Time, 60 4-ssec.
