REPORT BY THE ENGINEER
UNDERTAKINGS IN HAND AMD
IN PROSPECT,
TREATMENT OF SEWAGE
TAR MACADAMISING QUEEN STREET.
At the meeting of the Masfcertosj Borough Council as a Works Cornraittae lasc night week, a report of the Town Clerk anJ Borough Engineer in the following terras was submitted and adopted:— There is nothing occasioning report upon routine matters. The work of regrading and metalling Lincoln road is proceeding, and will, I anticipate, be completed in about seven dsys' time.
Sundry other loan works in Pine street and Villa street are being carried on.
Mr V. Beckett has agreed to dedi< cate land abutting on Villa street north to effect the widening thereof, the consideration being the provision of a kerbed channelled and metalled frontage, and the setting back of the fences.
The inspection chambers along the pipe line at the headworks are now nearly completed. I propose later to report more fully upon this subject. lam arranging to empty the settling tank at the sewage farm, and in doing so am taking such precautions as are necessary and proper to effectively dispose of the sludge without committing nuisance.
I propose at a little later stage to make certain representations to the Council upon a more effective method of treating the sewage at the works considering the operations now in progress or contemplated in connection with improving the water undertaking to be of primary importance, and of a more urgent character.
The tarmac operations in Queen street will be commenced immediately upon the completion of Lincoln road, and will unless unforseen circumstances arise be continued to the extent authorised, namely, from the Waipoua to the Queen's Hotel.
