COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the abowe Council was held in the €otinciJ Chambers on Saturday, December sth. Present: 1 The Chairman ((Mr T. Hodgins) and Crs Bolton, Smith, Cornelius, Barrell, 1 Ross, Piper, Coom and Quirk. Correspondence was received from Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., stating that he had communicated with the Minister of Roads on the subject of the Hukanui-Mangamaire Road; from Mr . A. D. Eghnton, asking the Council i to open the ford ever the Makuri . river at Ngaturi to enable him to cart his wool out. —Decided to expend «£3 on the ford. From Mr B. De .Malmanche, offering £1 for grass .seed on about two miles of MakairoConoor Road—Accepted. Frofh Eketahuna County Council, enclosing particulars of proposed Kopikopiko Road loan, Eketahuna, to raise £6OO, Government subsidy £6OO, and asking Pahiatua County to raise £l5O. —lt was decided to obtain an opinion from the settlers interested in the proposed loan. From Sanitary Inspector, . stating that the general sanitary condition of the County was good, and reporting one case of scarlet , fever at Kumeroa. The patient had since been admitted to the'Pahiatua Hospital.—The report -was reoaived. From the Department of Lands and Survey, stating that it was desired to reserve the .cemetery site, section 146, Makuri township, for scenery preservation, ,-and to set aside sections 56, 62 and as a cemetery reserve. —The proposed change was agreed to. From ,s*me, forwarding list of new thirds. Treasurer's Account Pahiatua .County Fund, ,dr £5,817 14s 7d; Interest Account, cr £6 17s 2d; Interest and Hospifcal Thirds Account, ,cr £|,532 Os U-; Land Fund Account, cr£242 17b 7d; Government Loans to Local Bodies Account, cr £1,230 14s 9d. The .Finance Coßiciittee recommended that accounts amounting to ,£BOB Co H be passed for payment. GENERAL. The following resolutions propused fcy Cr Quirk were carried:—(l) That broom be placed on the lisst of noxious weeds; (2) that an estimate be prepared for painting the County bridges that have not already been painted; (3) that a comparative return be prepared showing the cost Jjer yard of metal, as delivered by

the County teams, and by contract, I for a period of twelve months, and a I full allowance to be made for the fluctuations in the price of n° rse feed, and depreciation of the Coun-1 cil'B horses, plant, etc.; (4) that the Engineer be instructed to sell such timber mentioned in his report that will not be of use for Council work. I On the motion of Cr Coom, it l was decided to authorise the Engineer to attend to the culverts oft the Makuri Road, and to the rivet j encroachment on the same w&tf*, also that the Engineer's recommendation be given effect to re Jsck's bridge on the Woodville-Gsftanga Road. It was decided to leave She arrangement of dog collar supplies in the hands of the Chairman, ;and to fix the dog tax at the same rate as in previous years. On Cr Smith's proposition, it was decided to grant leave to the settlers interested to take the 'necessary proceedings to open for general traffic the unopened portion of the H<uka-nui-Mangamaire Road, and on Cr Piper's metion, the roadman's whare mii he shifted from MakairoKohunm .Junction to the roadman's reserve.
