PUBLIC SCHOOL SPORTS.

The Public Schools Amateur Athletic Association's sports were held to-day in brilliantly fine weather, and were very largely attended. Several fine displays were given by the school children and cadets, and a very lengthy programme of sports was gone through. The 880 yards championship, for which there were twenty-one entries, was won by L. B. Lackmore (West Christchurch), in 2min 20sec. The event, keenly contested, was won on the tape. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION. The annual collections in aid of the St. John Ambulance Association, were taken up in the city by lady collectors, who numbered 150. The Hon. G. Fowlds telegraphed to the Association that th r Jovernment would subsidise the c .actions £ for £up to £2OO. The amount collected by the first shift totalled £SB. APPRECIATED SERVICES. Mr Lowrie, the retiring director of the Lincoln Agricultural College, will be presented with an illuminated address by the Farmers' Union at a picnic to be held at the College on Thursday next.
