MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

ESTATE OF ROBERT E. HOWELL, AUCTIONEER. At th* meeting of creditors in the estate of R. E. Howell, bansrupt on Saturday, the only creditor present was the DO. A., Mr W. B. Chennells, liquidator in the estate of R. E. Howell and Co., auctioneers to whom bankrupt was indebted for ■ £IOB. The other creditors, claima j brought the total liabilities to £129 | 0s 6d, as follows:—C- A. Pownall, \ £3 3s;T. McCracken, £1 ss; W.I Lamb, £1 7s 6d; H. Cole, £6: I Borough Council; 12s; Bates and Lees, Taylor, Wellington, £2 16s 6d. Bankrupt examined by the D.O. \., said he was made bankrupt on petition of the liquidator of Howeil and Co., Ltd. He put £2OO into the business, and was still liable for £IOO capital besides his share of the bank guarantee. He had no assets of any description. The furniture belonged to his wife, and was once mortgaged by her, but was now free. There was no trust account kept in Howell and Co., bankrupt keeping accounts as his predecessor had done. Had had no previous experience as an auctioneer, and was not aware a trust account should be kept. He knew of fio person who ' had lost money through the method of keeping accounts. He was out of work, and could make ro offer. Mrs Howell had conducted the skating rink during the winter out of her own money entirely. ESTATE OF AMELIA CARRICK, DRAPER. A meeting of creditors in the above estate was called for Saturday afternoon, but no creditors attended. The estate showed an estimated surplus of £194 7s. Bankrupt, examined by the D.0.A., said she kept a bank account at the Bank of New South Wales. She had been buying stock for cash since starting business, and had taken out of the business what money was requh-ed for living expenses. The business did not pay from the start. Most of the wages had been paid by cash, but all other money received was paid through the bank, a book had been kept showing receipts and payments. . Bankrupt had paid £SO deposit on the purchase of a house, the price to be £SOO. She borrowed £SO from W. G. Beard on her interest in the house, furniture and'effects, Mr Beard taking na security, though witness signed a paper to what effect she could not remember. She had received her full share from her father's estate, and expected no more. All her money had gone in the business. She looked after the shop while her husband was away packing and seeking orders. Her husband was to receive £2 10s per week as wages. He received payments at various times, [the money going in household expenses. She had no offer *o make to her creditors.
