Mr and Mrs W. P. James leave some time during the present month on a trip to Sydney. Mr R. W. Thompson, of Nikau, died at his son's residence, Nikau, onTuesday. Deceased was 79 years of age at the time of his death. • A pleasing function took place at the residence of Mrs N. Miller, yesterday afternoon, when Miss Johnston, instructress, and the pupils of the dressmaking class in connection with the Masterton Technical School, were entertained at afternoon tea. On behalf of the pupils of the class Miss F. Miller presented Miss Johnston with a handsomsly-embossed watch as a token of esteem in which Miss Johnston was held by the mem.bersofthe class. Miss Johnston returned thanks in a brief speech. A very old identity in the person of Mr G. T. Fannin passed away yesterday morning, states a Napier Press Association message. Deceased, who was born in Ireland, in 1830, arrived in the Dominion in 1854, and settled in this district. On the formation of the Provincial Council he was appointed clerk, which position he held till the abolition of the province, when he was appointed clerk and treasurer of the County Council, a position he held for nearly 30 years-

Mr J. M. Coradine, accompanied by Mra Coradine, proposes to make ajtour of portions of the word, which will form an extremely interesting trip. The voyagers will leave Masterton about January 19th, and will proceed to Melbourne, where a month will be spent. After leaving there they proceed to Hongkong and Japan by the usual route through the Pacific Islands. In this part of the tour about six weeks will be occupied by them. After a sojourn- ; n Eastern lands. Mr and Mrs Coradine'proceed to England via America/returning to New Zealand later by a different route. The trip should' occupy over 12 months.
