MK BRIDGES ENTERTAINED AT A SOCIAL.
PRESENTATION OF A PURSE OF SOVEREIGNS.
There was a large gathering at the Foresters' Hall last evening l , when a farewell social was tendered to Mr J. Bridges, the organiser of the Masterton No-License League. Mr D. McGregor, junr., occupied the chair.
The Mayor, Mr P, L. Hollings, in presenting Mr Bridges with a purse of sovereigns, spoke of the excellent services rendered by Mr Bridges in connection with the recent Local Option Poll. A number of speakers from all parts of the electorate also made eulogistic terms*of the valuable assistance rendered by the recipient in connection to the cause of NoLicense, attributing to his energy and skill as an organiser much of the success attained by the Party. Mr Bridges, in a Jbrief but heartfelt speech, returned thanks for the presentation, and acknowledged the valuable assistance rendered to him by the band of No-License workers. A very enjoyable musical programme was gone through during the evening, the following contributing items:—Miss Daniell, pianoforte solo; Mr C. Ibbetson, song, encored; Miss Jackson, song; Mr N. and Miss Jones, duet; Miss Allsworth, recitation; Miss Daniell, recitation; and Messrs Bridges and Wise contributed a dialogue. Prior to the presentation supper was partaken of, about one hundred people sitting down to the same. At the conclusion of the gathering a vote of sympathy, moved by Mr D. McGregor, and carried unanimously, was accorded to the Hutt No-License League.
