As usual the" meeting attracted a vast concourse of spectators. Speculation per medium of the totalisator was brisk throughout and no less than twenty-three bookmakers were in attendance to lay the odds. The course was in fine order, and some fast times were registered. It was on this track that Lord Soult ran six furlongs in lmin 13 2-ssec, and established a record for the Dominion. In a field of brilliant sprinters that lined up for the Flying Stakes Golden Eagle reproduced her Wairarapa winning form, and won from Muskerry in the fast time of lmin 14 l-ssec : for the six furlongs. Shuja, by Soult, was lookeJ upon as a moral for the Aorangi Welter, and he won in good style trom Eclogue and a strong field. The principal event. St. Andrew's Handicap, brought out a decidedly good.average lot of handicap horses including the Masterton-trained San • Julie and JRiflemaid. At the business «nd Eusbandman showed to best advantage, and won trom the we:lbacked The Lark. Husbandman was ;hred and is owned by Sir George .Clifford. He is by Treadmill—Golden Tale, and on the King's Birthday won the (Canterbury Derby. The Spring Hurdles resulted in a boil over, Oryx winning from Don Carlos, and returning his supporters a very substantial dividend. Stayboy accounted for the Hack Hurdles in good style from Moose. The winner was a good performer, last year, but had not been seen out previously this season. Class was well represented in the Feilding Stakes, of 500 sovs. Gold Crest, who is exceptionally smart at getting away from the barrier, did so on this occasion, and won from Mr W. K. Bidwill's' Provocation, who would probably have won but for the hardness of the course. The two-year-old is somewhat sore, and gallops more freely when the sting is out of the ground. Late form proved to be worth following in the Kiwitea Welter for Ikon and Sandstream, both good performers this season, finished first and second. The meeting will be continued today, when the ring will again be full of interest. ACCEPTANCES FOR SECOND DAY. FEILDING. November 30.
