ANNIVERSARY DAY.
AQUATIC CARNIVAL. PROGRAMME OF SWIMMING EVENTS. I A special meeting of the General! Committee oftthe Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening, Dr R. V. Hosking in the chair. The meeting was called with object of drawing up a programme of swimming events for the aquatic carnival to be held on the Park Lake on Anniversary Day, the funds for which are to* be devoted to Park beautification. The Committee of the Carnival had requested the Swimming Club to draw up the i programme. Th& events held at the Carnival last year were used as a basis,, and,, after considerable discussion it was decided to revise tne programme in- , the direction of including more open events to encourage first-class outside competition. Finally the following programme was drawn up for | the'approvai of the Aquatic Sports Committee Open Events—7syds (scr),,. 100 yds (handicap)* 200 yds (handicap),. 220 yds (scr), Wairarapa Championship, 440 yds (handicap), relay race,. 3, competitors (50yds each distance), running and standing dive, long dive,, truck dive, plunge, exhibition' rescue race (live model),, life-saving competition (under the Royal Life-saving Suciety*s rules..) Club Events — 50 yds handicap, 66yds handicap, 40yds handicap, 220 yds handicap. It was decided to refer . ther school events to a committee as set up last year from tbe school. A meeting of the side shows comi mittee was called for last evening,. ' when the humorous swimming events [ and kindred matters were to have been drawn up. Only one person put J in an appearance, however, and the meeting consequently lapsed.
