MASTERTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
monthly meeting. _ A meeting of Managers of the Masterton Technical School was held last evening. There were present—Messrs E. Feist (Chairman), W. H. Jackson and J. B. Keith. The Treasurer reported as follows— Credit balance at last meeting, £44 Os 7d; receipts for the month, £97 17s 9d; expenditure, £63 12s 7d; credit balance at date, £7B 7s 9:1. The special account showed a credit balance of £333 12s lOd. A letter was received from the Education Dspartment stating that a set of plaster casts of variojs woodcarving styles had been forwarded for the use of scholars. The Technical Education Board / wrote drawing attention to the question whether the plumbers, holding provincial licenses, tinsmiths, and other tradesmen might be allowed to assist candidates entering forthe plumbers' practical examination, and stating that the matter had been submitted to the Plumbers' Board of Control.—The Secretary stated that in examinations at Masterton the practice had always been to allow only apprentices to assist candidates.
A telegram was received from the Hon. G. Fowlds, stating that he,was agreeable to comply with such arrangements s\s would be suitable to the Managers, in connection with the opening of the Seddon Memorial Technical School. It was decided to open the Seddon Memorial Technical School on December 10th, the function to take place at 3 p.m., and to invite the following guests to attend the function: —Mr Lee, Chairman of the Education Board; Mr A. W. Hogg, Member for the district; Mr W. C. Buchanan, Member for Wairarapa; Mr P. L. Hollings, Mayor of Masterton ; the Councillors of the Masterton Borough Council; the Chairman and Councillors of the Masterton County Council; members of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust; members of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce; the Masterton School Committee; Mr T. Y. Seddon and members of the Seddon family; and all those who subscribed in aid of the School. On the motion of Mr Jackson, it was decided to entertain the Minister and his party at luncheon at the Club Hotel. Mr Jackson was authorised to arrange with the Town Clerk for the erection of a suitable lamp in front of the new school. The Secretary was instructed to have the fittings, etc.,'removed from the present technical school to the Seddon Memorial School, and to have them fitted up, under the instruction of Mr Jackson and the Secretary.— Messrs G. Hyde and Co. were appointed to do the work. Specifications for a supply of three cases of hyloplates were submitted by Messrs Jackson and Keith and approved of. It was decided to send the order through the Education Board. Accounts amounting to £64 10s 3d were passed for payment.
