Mr J. McEnnis, S.M., for the Mount Ida district, will retire from the magistracy on March 31st next. He has been in the public service for 46 years. He served in the police force for ten years, was clerk of the Magistrate's Court in Westland for 27 years, and was appointed Magistrate in 1900. Mr J. Grattan Grey, formerly chief of the New Zealand Hansard staff, accompanied by his wife, is at pitesent on a visit to Auckland. Mr Grey left the Dominion some eight years ago, and, after travelling extensively in America, Great Britain, and the Continent of Europe, took up his residence in Melbourne, where he has since jbeen engaged in literary and journalistic work. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones left Wellington on Thursday night for Timaru. He will return to Wellington on Sunday. On Monday he commences his term of office as High Commissioner, and on Thursday he will leave for London by the Corinthic. The Right Rev. William Leonard Williams, Bishop of Waiapu, who intends retiring owing to advancing j years, was born at Pahia, Bay of j Islands in 1829. He is a son of Bishop Williams the first Bishop of Waiapu, 'and was ordained in 1853. On the departure of Bishop Stuart for Persia, he was consecrated Bishop of Waiapu in 1895. Mr and Mrs D. Caselberg, who have been absent from the for a period of about six months, on a trip to the Old Country and the Continent of Europe, returned to Masterton last evening. A Press Association telegram from Woodville states thac Mr W. G. Crawford, Returning Officer for Fahiacua, who had a paralytic seizure last Wednesday, is improving in health. His son was "appointed deputy returning officer, and work in connection with the late election is progressing satisfactorily.
