. WAIKANAE HACK RACING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Waikanae Hack Racing Club is an event that is always looked forward to with keen interest by the sporting pubilc. In another column is advertised the programme of the next meeting, which is announced to take place on Friday, January Ist, on the Waikanae Racecourse. No less than seven events will be held, and the allotment of stakes is very liberal. Nominations for all. races except Trial Plate, close on Friday, 4th December, at 8 p.m., at the office of the Secretary, Mr James A. Muir, Waikanae. I'URF NOTES. (By "Zetland.") Epsom Downs who was injured some weeks ago through becoming entangled in a wire clothes line is now making good progress towards recovery. A leading publican of Christchurch, •who until recently resided in Wairarapa, .was sucessful in selecting the big winning double at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and received a cheque from an Auckland bookmaker for over £SOO. After the Marlborough meeting the other day Jolly Roger, dentin and Sweet Hill were submitted fcr sale by auction and realised £2l, £29 and £l9, respectively. Mr J. Cress has the Conqueror filly Campaign in work again, and she is shaping satisfactorily on the tracks. Mr David Buick, who was this week successful in defeating Mr Wood for the Manawatu seat, is the owner of Tangimoana and Rangipapa, and is Vice-President of the Manawatu Racing Club. When the Gaming and Lotteries Act comes before the House with a view to its amendment Mr Buick will be among those who will talk straight on several of the clauses of the now notorious Bill. San Julie is to be taken through to the Feilding meeting which opens on Monday next. The San Fran mare has been executing satisfactory work since her success in the Wairarapa County Cup, and being very consistent may be depended upon, to run at least prom- • inently in the better company she will be called upon to meet. The present favourites for the Auckland Cup are Master Delaval, Bobrikoff Signor and Downfall. Wairarapa is sure to be well, represented at the Woodville meeting next month, for most of the entrants from this district have been nicely treated in the matter of weight. Among those that read well in their first day's engagements are Moloch, San Julie, Merrie Rose, Indian Mutiny, Osiris, Lochiela, Aboriginal, Merrie Zealand, Skye and Tmuuc. One of the worst handicapped is Routine, who is asked to give 8 recent winner in Highden, four pounds in the Grandstand Handicap, while in the Welter she is called upon to concede weight to Buoyant, Windage, Highden, Flintgun and ten ■ others. On her form as shown for some time Routine could have been let in with a few pounds over the minimum'weight. California is again in work at Hastings, but his work is only of a light 'nature. The San Fran colt will probably be given a run in the Woodville Cup. N Great interest is being taken in the Feilding Stake, to be run next week. It is ' probable that the starters will include Provocation, Expansion, Armlet, Broadsword, Bobrikoff, Gold Crest, Flitaway, Ambrosian, Crucmella, and Lady Menschikoff. All these can gallop five furlongs very fast, and the event should call for the extreme brilliancy for which some of the contestants are noted.
