"MRS WIGGS OF THE CABBAGE PATCH."
The specially selected Company of character artists picked by Liebler and Co. for the Australian tour of "Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch," under the direction of J. C. Williamson, will present that quaint comedy of life among the luwly at the Town Hall, Masterton, on Wedneslay next. A contemporary says:—"The play itself is the most successful drama which has been written around the life of 'Mrs Wiggs,' and that of 'Lovey Mary' and their neighbours. Theatre-goers feel kindly towards 'Mrs Wiggs,'-and thousands who have read Mrs Rice's book recall her first glimpse. 'Mrs Wiggs' is now a permanent figure upon the American and English stages, the central character of a quaint character play dramatised from Mrs Rice's book by her friend and neighbour, Mrs Anne Crawford Flexner. It was beyond doubt trom the start that 'Mrs Wiggs' would eventually find herself before the footlights, for her popularity in book form reached almost at once a height achieved by but few creations of the novelists." The cast of players includes Ada Dwyer in her role of Mrs Wiggs, John Webber as Mr Stubbins, Helen Lowell as Miss Hazy. Others in the cast are Lottie Alter, J. W. Smiley, Eugene S&atcespeare, A. W. Maflin, Bertha Gordon, Helena Raymond, Gustine Armstrong. The box plan will be opened at Miss Rive's on Saturday next.
