THE BRITISH NAVY.
TWO-POWER STANDARD. ASSURANC3 BY MR ASQUITH. Received November 25, 8 a.m. LONDON, November 24. In the House of Commons, Mr A. H. Lee, member for the Fareham Division of Hampshire, and who was Civil Lord of the Admiralty in the Balfour Government, enquiring regarding the two-Pov*er naval standard, asked whether the Government meant the two next strongest Powers, whichever they were, an d wherever their fleets were. In reply, the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. H. H. Asquith, said: "Under all existing and foreseeable conditions, I think that is so. (Cheers.) The dominating consideration is to maintain our superiority at sea at the two-Power standard, and to devise a workable formula to that end." (Cheers.)
