AUCKLAND WOOL SALE. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 23. The first wool sale of the season takes place at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. The order ot the sale and the number of bales catalogued is as follows: —C. B. Kingswell and Co., 12U bales; G. W. Binney and Sons, 604; Auckland Farmers' Union, 250; Alfred Buckland and Sons,l,377;New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., 1,908; Dalgety and Co., Ltd., 400; total, 4,659 bales. The number of bales catalogued this year exceeds the total number offered at the corresponding sale of last year. This is the result of the fine weather which prevailed during the shearing season, thus enabling the farmers to get through with shearing operations earlier than usual. The wool is of exceptionally good quality, and fairly light in grease. For some years there has been a yearly improvement noticeable, and the standard of the fleece to be offered on Wednesday next is well up to the average. This is the result of using more care in the selection of rams, and also to the better get up of the wool before packing.

An American student of economics, Mr A. B. Leckenby, is at present in Auckland. He was much interested in the recent Parliamentary elections, and speaks in enthusiastic terms of the healthy, wholesome interest displayed by the people, and the utter absence of any of those scenes and evidences of coercion and intrigue which no often characterise elections in the United States. "Our politicians say it would be disgraceful to see women vote," said Mr Leckenby; "but there was nothing disgraceful about last Tuesday's voting. It was a revelation to me, and I enjoyed it fine. I waited till the very last result was posted, and I ne.ver before saw such intense interest and enthusiasm, combined with good order, displayed by an election crowd."
