A PUNITIVE EXPEDITION SIX WOMEN AND A CHILD SHOT. VILLAGE SURPRISED. Received November 23, 9.42 a.m. SYDNEY, November 23. A punitive expedition, sent to the Island of Espiritu Sai:to, New Hebrides, to punish the murderers of Mr Peter C. Greig, a settler (aged 51), and his two daughters (17 and 16 years old, respectively), consisted of native police and an armed party from H.M.S. Prometheus. The expedition surprised the village concerned in the murder. The inhabitants made a dash for the hills, and the native police fired, six women and a child being shot. When the mail left the party were still in pursuit of the tribesmen.
